The Institute for Phobic Awareness, a non-profit organization, has served for over twenty-six years helping people with phobias and panic attacks.  It’s founder Dr. Marilyn Gellis knew all too well the terrible burden placed on people suffering, especially when the behavior starts at a young age.

Great progress has been made in all areas of panic and anxiety disorders thanks to hard work from Dr. Gellis and others. Many options are now available including counseling, support groups, education, literature and medication.

The Institute for Phobic Awareness has always made available free literature, books and services to help guide individuals and families to cope and resume normal lives.

Upon the passing of its founder, Dr Gellis, the board of directors unanimously voted to further her work by using new media to reach more people.  Consequently, in 2004 they were proud to release, “Open Spaces” the award winning film showing the turmoil and effects of people trying to cope with agoraphobia.

The institute has long known that building confidence in young adults is a tool vital in helping avoid later pitfalls. They are now joining with We the People Films to bring to light young contestants as they gain confidence and skill and grow into civic-minded citizens, while also examining cultural and economic differences.

“This is a way for us to expand service to the community”, said Institute director Marie Robertson, when making the recent announcement in Palm Springs, California.

The audience will see first hand an in-depth look at  preparation and training and discover actual changes in the student’s knowledge and confidence as they formulate civic attitudes that will become their core beliefs.
